Rhinos and their horns

I wanted to talk about something that is close to my heart. I wanted to talk about rhinos and the ridiculous and cruel rhino horn trade.

Let’s be clear about something.

Rhino horns are similar in structure to horses’ hooves, turtle beaks, and cockatoo bills. They are made of keratin – basically the same stuff that’s in your hair and fingernails. Yet, despite their being no empirical evidence to suggest otherwise, certain cultures, such as is in China with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it is regarded as something of a magical elixir. But the reality is that it is no better for you than chewing on your fingernails.

There are also those that just find it looks nice on the mantlepiece.

But what are the facts?

There are five species of rhinoceros and, with the exception of one subspecies of African white rhino, all are in danger of being hunted to extinction for their horns. Furthermore,  the scarcity of rhinos today and the corresponding intermittent availability of rhino horn only drives the price higher, and intensifies the pressure on the declining rhino populations. For people whose annual income is often far below the subsistence level, the opportunity to change one’s life by killing an animal that they don’t value is overwhelming.
Poachers will directly respond to demand. And now they are now being supplied by international criminal gangs with sophisticated equipment to track and kill rhinos. Often they use a tranquiliser gun to bring the rhino down and hack of its horn leaving the rhino to wake up and bleed to death very painfully and slowly. Let me reiterate. These poachers cause these beautiful animals to die PAINFULLY AND SLOWLY. Poachers are also often armed with guns making them very dangerous for the anti-poaching teams who put their lives on the line to protect rhinos.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I’m scared that one day, if I ever have kids (which I would willingly but you know – I kinda need a wife for that), I will have to tell them about rhinos through a picture book because they will no longer be around to see. And for what? It’s tragic that these amazing creatures are dying over a myth that the rhino horn has some therapeutic benefit. And if you have any doubts about how cruel this trade is, a google image search will highlight the cruel reality.

So what can you do?

A good place to start is Save the Rhino (https://www.savetherhino.org/) which is an organisation that looks to act before it is too late. You should also report any suspicious activity to the authorities, if you suspect someone is selling/buying rhino horn products.

Do what you can!

Chinese man claims to tell women’s fortune by cupping their breasts.

I kid you not. This story is true. What is more surprising is that one woman actually let this guy do it.

The video was recorded by passers by who couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

The short clip was posted to video-sharing site Miaopai and shows the man, holding a pair of crutches in his other hand, sitting impassively as he puts his hand inside the woman’s top.

He appears emotionless about the woman’s future, as she rests her chin on her hand. I wonder what her future held?

The video is available here

Oh no. Oh no. Oh no!

Everybody has awkward moments. Sometimes they are with friends; other times with family. However, most are not as bad as THIS ARTICLE posted in the Daily Mirror today.

So the story revolves around an unidentified young woman who seeked help from Reddit following a very unfortunate situation where her sister and two children payed her a surprise visit one Sunday afternoon.

The woman, who lives alone, who is usually a very private person had handed out her house key to her close family members. So when her sister came to visit her, she let herself right into the house. And despite asking that her sister or any family member call in advance or let her know that she is coming, she turned up unannounced while she was right in the middle of a very loud orgasm.

The woman explained “I had some quiet music on in my bedroom, but it was just loud enough to cover her opening the door and walking in.”

“Now, she didn’t come into my bedroom, but I was right in the middle of a rather loud orgasm as I realised something was off.”
She got dressed and rushed downstairs to speak to her sister but by the time she got there, her sister was already filling up the car and making her escape.

Pretty mortifying right?

But, if that humiliation wasn’t enough, the girl’s sister later broached the subject and was ANGRY at her for pleasuring herself that morning.

“she told me I should have known it was a possibility that they would visit on a Sunday afternoon”.

Wow, so you turn up at your sister’s house unannounced on a weekend, you let yourself without as much as knocking or ringing a doorbell and yet you’re the angry one? Okay….

Personally I’d take my key back. Do you think the girl was in the wrong? What would you have done? Have you had any equally embarrassing stories from unannounced guests?

Take care my peeps!

Sex leads to spirituality in men…

Yesterday, the Sunday Mirror in the United Kingdom shared a story of immense proportion.

The leading paper for hard fact journalism highlighted the work of researchers at Duke University in the United States which claims the release of oxytocin during sex (also know as the “cuddle chemical”) could potentially inspire the belief, or even strengthen the belief in God or a higher power.

Personally, if it’s that good, I’d suggest you put a ring on it.

But anyway, the article (Which is available HERE) goes on to state that “women produce more oxytocin then men, but Duke University hasn’t yet studied its affects on female godliness.” So who knows if sex may be almighty for all genders. It makes you wonder about the whole celibacy thing being a good idea too if it sex strengthens your faith.

As a side note: my favourite part of the article is the figure legends where it says “couple having sex”. I’m glad they cleared that up for us then…

Let me know your thoughts folks!
