New Year: Blogging thoughts

I really think these words are of great value for anyone starting off blogging. I myself have only a small number of readers but I am happy any time I can connect with them. I’d personally have a small but interested blog follower group than just ones who like everything without reading. It’s not that I mind the likes, it’s just not my reason for blogging if that makes sense. But anyway, definitely read through this post. It’s immense!

I suspect that many people will be thinking of starting a blog as a new year project. There may also be many who might be considering giving up on blogging too. In the summer of this year, I will have been blogging for five years. My blog is just an average thing, something I do for my own pleasure and amusement. It does not attract daily views of 1,000+, and cannot boast a following approaching 500,000, like so many of the busy blogs out there. However, it is enough for me, and I have some thoughts and tips for anyone embarking on a blog in 2017.

Don’t blog just to make money. It rarely happens.

Don’t be attracted by SEO bloggers, or Spam bloggers promising to increase traffic on your site.

Write about things you are interested in, not what you think others will like.

Keep it personal, and only…

So things have been interesting recently! I mentioned in previous posts how excited I am about Christmas.

I was also the subject of a recent blog post by this really intriguing woman who I have come across on WordPress called Michelle. She’s the author of the blog Unblunder which is actually a really funny and unapologetic blog about her life. If you are interested in the post she wrote about me, it’s here: Is it me?

Michelle is actually a really cool and über sexy woman. I’ve been trying to have a laugh and a joke around with her for quite a while but she’s never really seemed too interested. She doesn’t even follow my blog! So you can imagine my surprise when I get a message from her asking if she could link to my blog (which I realise I did not offer the same courtesy – I probably should have but here’s hoping she forgives me for it!). What was actually more surprising is that she actually is intrigued by me. That’s great right? Hell yes it is!

Even though I have been here a while now, I still get the same buzz that I first got whenever anyone appreciates my work. If that person is gorgeous too! Even better! The best thing I find about WordPress though is that it gives you the opportunity to meet new and interesting people. And Michelle put in her blog that she really doesn’t know whether she should get to know me. Cutely, she also has wondered if she was my crush. Personally, in my opinion, there is never any harm in getting to know someone. Hell, I’ve met some amazing people all over the planet on this place. I find every person is worth taking a chance on because you never know what you might come across. Maybe I’ll just always be an admirer of her blog. Maybe we can end up friends? MAYBE she is someone that I have a crush on? Who knows! But there is only one way to find out.

Me, I’m an inquisitive guy. I’d want to know.

Do you ever find…

Whenever I start writing something here, I am always writing off the top of my head. More often than not, very little planning goes into it. I find it funny reading stuff back because I think it gives quite an interesting insight into how ideas form in my head. I know when I’m writing, I want to sound smart so I add all these pointless words in here and there when really it would probably make better reading by just being straightforward. It’s definitely not very “authory” of me. I should plan!

I think one of the big problems of constructing sentences when you are basically writing what you think is that you are often not sure how the sentence is going to end when you are putting it down in front of you. Obviously, if you proof it as you go along, you can change it but damn it, when I write, I write like I’m a German speaking English more than an Oxforf Professor. And I’m not even German!

How do you write your blogs? Do you plan out stories and posts? Do you write them in word before you post them? Let me know how you roll!
