The Greatest Football/Soccer Ref of all time?

One of the bains of football fans worldwide is the referee. When they give decisions your way, you love them but when they inexplicably deny you a goal because of an offside call that was incorrect or they give the opposition a penalty for a dive, you can’t stand them. At least for the most part.

But then there was Jorge José Emiliano dos Santos. Jorge José Emiliano dos Santos de Puto was a Brazilian football referee, known for his flamboyant style. His nickname was Margarida, which means “Daisy” in English.

Margarida brought smiles to millions of people’s faces. Sadly he died from AIDS-related complications in 1995.

Here is a tribute to one of the most colourful referees in footballing history.
